Mary Gales

My dear friend Mary Gales died in Seattle on January 23. It was an unexpected and untimely death. For thirteen years she was my body worker, fellow artist, musician and friend. I have photographed Mary a number of times over the years and we had plans to do another photo session soon. She was a beautiful person in so many ways. I am glad that I have photographs of her so her family can use them to remember her. Several friends and I have set up an art scholarship in her name at Gage Academy. Death is very difficult to process in any circumstance. But an untimely death such as Mary’s leaves many people reeling and many questions unanswered. One way I have channeled my grief is to create a video and song to honor her. If you’d like to see it, click here.

Thank you for a beautiful memorial video of Mary (posted on YouTube). I knew Mary here in Ketchikan, and she was a wonderful and gifted person. I only just heard of her death, and was deeply saddened as well. She will be missed, but her memory will live on.

Here it is Nov. 2013 and I am saddened beyond belief! Thank you for this beautiful video of a beautiful women,,, inside and out! She has been in my life for many years as I first started seeing her when she was just starting out in Ketchikan. She was running back and forth between Ketchikan and Wrangel when I was first privileged to start seeing her. She sent me an email in January telling me that she was quitting her practice and I was shocked but didn’t know why. She just told me she was exploring her options… I don’t even know what to say except that she will be missed and my sympathy to her family and good friends. Only found out today and am in shock!
